“Paradise Island Misplaced” is the title of a two-part story arc written by Phil Jimenez and George Pérez, featured in Surprise Girl (Vol. 2) #168-169.[1][2] The story’s name is derived from the epic poem Paradise Misplaced by John Milton.

This was Jimenez’s second story arc below his run on Marvel Lady, with the primary being the “Gods of Gotham” four-problem story arc from Marvel Girl (Vol. Jiminez co-wrote this story arc with George Pérez, finest known to have rebooted Surprise Lady in 1987 first with the “Gods and Mortals” story arc. It was Pérez’s first return to the e-book since 1992. It would not be until problem #171 that Jimenez turned the e book’s sole writer. 2) #164-167, which he co-wrote with J. M. DeMatteis.

Plot

Whereas the feud between Princess Diana and Queen Hippolyta continues, because of Diana’s function as Surprise Girl and not Queen of Themyscira, another feud arises between the Themysciran Amazons and their Bana-Mighdall Amazon sisters. With the assistance of Fury, Ariadne is defeated, and mother and daughter stop the struggle between the two above the skies with the promise of starting change. However even in any case that, Hippolyta continues to battle alongside the Justice Society of America as their very own Marvel Girl. It isn’t lengthy until the feud leads to a civil warfare on Paradise Island between the two tribes breaking out. They start by shocking everybody with the abolition of the Themysciran Royal Family as each Hippolyta and Diana lay down their titles as Queen and Princess, thus resolving the differences that have long festered between the Amazons of Paradise Island and the Bana-Mighdalls. The battle involves a head as Magala from Bana-Mighdall, the architect of the conflict, is revealed to be none aside from Ariadne, in her plot for revenge towards the Amazons.

Aftermath

The ramifications of this two-parter would proceed up to subject #177. During that point, there was a bit of mom/daughter feuding between Diana and Queen Hippolyta, mainly as a consequence of Hippolyta being a Marvel Lady (aka the Golden Age Wonder Girl, as she had battles during World Battle II). The feud is left unresolved when DC Comics’s crossover of 2001, “Our Worlds at War”, led to Hippolyta being killed off in issue #172, before the 2 might reconcile. Later on, in subject #177, Themyscira is rebuilt as, at that time, floating islands. In situation #173, Diana returns to her Amazon sisters to assist them earlier than they are destroyed.
