Georgian Bay Islands Nationwide Park (established 1929) consists of 63 small islands or parts of islands in Georgian Bay, near Port Severn, Ontario. Previous to the creation of Fathom 5 National Marine Park, Flowerpot Island was additionally a part of the park. [2] The full park area is roughly 13.5 km2 (5.2 sq mi). [3]

The islands mix the uncovered rocks and pines of the Canadian Shield with the hardwood forests found additional south. Restricted camping and docking amenities, trails and cabins are only obtainable on the largest island, Beausoleil Island. The entire islands are open to the general public. [4] The park can only be reached by boat.

It is part of the Georgian Bay Littoral Biosphere Reserve.

Wildlife

It is house to mammalian species resembling white-tailed deer, moose, black bear, coyote, japanese wolf, lynx, bobcat, porcupine, raccoon, beaver, red and gray fox species, chipmunk, and pink squirrel. This park additionally supplies habitat for 33 species of reptiles and amphibians, including the 5 lined skink, japanese hognose snake, the japanese fox snake, and the threatened eastern Massasauga rattlesnake. [5] A number of the extra isolated islands present nesting areas for colonies of gulls and terns.

Beausoleil Island

Beausoleil Island is the most important island within the park and it provides island tent camping, in a single day and day docking, heritage schooling programs, and hiking trails. Wheelchair accessible sites and reserved campsites are additionally accessible on the Cedar Spring campground on Beausoleil Island.
